Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’ – 3L Pot

Add a bold splash of colour and texture to your garden with Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’, also known as Japanese blood grass. This striking ornamental grass is renowned for its upright, sword-like green foliage that gradually turns intense crimson-red from summer into autumn, creating a fiery display that intensifies as the season progresses.

Ideal for modern borders, gravel gardens, and containers, ‘Red Baron’ thrives in full sun and moist but well-drained soil. It prefers a sheltered position, away from cold drying winds, and performs best when given space to form a neat, clump-forming mound up to 40cm tall.

Although not grown for flowers, small, reddish plumes may appear in late summer, adding extra texture. However, it’s the foliage that truly steals the show.

To maintain its shape and vibrancy, cut back old foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. Feed in spring with a slow-release balanced fertiliser to encourage strong, healthy growth throughout the season.
