Red Baron Onion Sets

When to Plant:
Plant Red Baron onion sets in early spring, from March to April, once the soil has warmed and is workable. Choose a sunny, well-drained location and prepare the soil by loosening it and adding organic matter. Plant the sets 2-3 cm deep with the pointed end facing upwards, spaced 15 cm apart to allow the bulbs to develop fully.

When to Feed:
Feed Red Baron onions with a balanced fertiliser or organic compost to promote healthy growth. Apply a general-purpose fertiliser at planting time, and then top up with a high-potash feed when the bulbs begin to swell, typically around mid-spring to early summer.

When to Harvest:
Red Baron onions are usually ready for harvest in late summer, around July to August, when the foliage begins to yellow and fall over. Lift the bulbs carefully and allow them to dry out in a warm, dry spot.
