Rhododendron Knaphill – A Stunning Deciduous Azalea

Rhododendron Knaphill is a striking deciduous azalea, prized for its vibrant, showy blooms and delightful fragrance. Flowering in late spring to early summer (May–June), it produces clusters of large, trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of yellow, orange, pink, or red. These blooms contrast beautifully with its fresh green foliage, which turns warm autumnal shades before falling.

This hardy shrub typically grows to a height and spread of 1.5–2 metres, making it ideal for borders, woodland gardens, or as a standalone feature. It thrives in a sunny or partially shaded position with acidic, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. For best results, plant in autumn or early spring.

Feeding with an ericaceous fertiliser in early spring and again after flowering will promote healthy growth and abundant blooms. Mulching with leaf mould or pine bark helps retain moisture and maintain soil acidity.

Rhododendron Knaphill is excellent for pollinators, providing a rich nectar source for bees and butterflies during its flowering season. Its long-lasting, fragrant blooms attract a variety of beneficial insects, supporting biodiversity in the garden.
