Acer Dissectum – The Elegant Laceleaf Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum Dissectum, commonly known as the Laceleaf Japanese Maple, is a striking deciduous tree celebrated for its finely cut, delicate leaves and graceful weeping form. In spring, the leaves unfurl in soft green tones, transitioning to vibrant reds and oranges in autumn, creating a dramatic and beautiful seasonal display.

This tree typically grows to a height of 1.5–2.5 metres, with a spread of around 2–3 metres, making it ideal for smaller gardens, containers, or as a feature tree in mixed borders. Acer Dissectum thrives in a sheltered position with dappled shade or morning sun, as its delicate foliage can scorch in intense, direct sunlight. It prefers moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Plant in autumn or early spring to allow the roots to establish before the growing season begins.

To maintain health and vibrant colour, feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring. Applying mulch around the base helps retain moisture and protect the roots from extreme temperatures.
