Cytisus praecox, also known as Broom ‘Praecox’, is a compact, deciduous shrub that produces a profusion of pale yellow, lightly scented flowers in early spring. Flowering from April to June, this early bloomer grows to a height and spread of 1-1.5m, making it an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, and cottage-style planting schemes.

For best results, plant in a sunny position with well-drained, sandy or loamy soil. Cytisus thrives in poor, light soils and is highly drought-tolerant once established. The best time to plant is autumn to early spring, allowing the roots to settle before the growing season. This low-maintenance shrub requires little feeding—applying a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring will support healthy growth and abundant flowering. Avoid high-nitrogen feeds, as these encourage excessive foliage rather than blooms.
