Tree Peony – Light Pink

The Tree Peony (Paeonia suffruticosa) in soft, blush pink is a stunning addition to any garden, producing large, ruffled blooms with a delicate fragrance. This deciduous shrub grows to a mature height of 1.5–2 metres, forming an elegant, woody framework that supports its impressive springtime display.

Flowering from April to June, tree peonies provide an early source of nectar for pollinators, particularly bees, which are drawn to their open, pollen-rich centres. Their long-lasting flowers make them a valuable asset to wildlife-friendly gardens.

For the best results, plant your tree peony in well-drained, fertile soil in a sheltered, sunny or partially shaded position. Avoid waterlogged areas, and provide protection from strong winds to prevent damage to the delicate petals.

The ideal planting time is autumn to early spring. Dig a deep hole, ensuring the graft union is at least 10cm below the soil surface to encourage strong root development.

Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring and again after flowering to support healthy growth and bud formation for the following year. A mulch of well-rotted manure or compost in autumn helps retain moisture and enrich the soil.
