Spiraea ‘Goldflame’ – Colour-Changing Foliage and Summer Blooms
Spiraea japonica ‘Goldflame’ is a compact, deciduous shrub prized for its vibrant foliage and clusters of bright pink flowers. Its leaves emerge in fiery shades of orange and red in spring, mature to golden-yellow in summer, and take on coppery tones in autumn, providing season-long interest.
From June to August, it produces flat-topped clusters of vivid pink flowers that attract bees and butterflies, making it a great choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.
Best positioned in full sun to partial shade, ‘Goldflame’ thrives in moist, well-drained soil. It’s an ideal choice for mixed borders, low hedging, or as a colourful feature in smaller gardens, typically growing to 60–80cm in height and spread.
Care tips: Water well during dry spells in its first year. Once established, it is drought tolerant and very low maintenance.
Feed in early spring with a general-purpose fertiliser to promote healthy growth and vibrant foliage.
Prune in late winter or early spring, cutting back hard to around 20–30cm to maintain a compact shape and encourage fresh, colourful new growth and prolific flowering.
Spiraea ‘Goldflame’ is a hardy, easy-care shrub that brings lasting colour and cheerful blooms to any UK garden.
