Onion Sets Poroska Red 500g
Onion Sets Poroska Red are a popular variety of onion sets that produce attractive, deep red bulbs with a sweet, mild flavour. They are perfect for adding colour and flavour to salads, sandwiches, and other dishes. Here’s everything you need to know to grow Onion Sets Poroska Red successfully.
Best Position: Onion Sets Poroska Red prefer a sunny position with well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. They grow well in raised beds, containers, or in traditional vegetable gardens.
When to Plant: Onion Sets Poroska Red can be planted in autumn or spring. Plant them in autumn from September to November, or in spring from March to April.
Fruiting Time: Onion Sets Poroska Red mature in around 90 to 100 days. They produce round, medium-sized bulbs that are deep red in colour.
Height and Spread: Onion Sets Poroska Red grow to a height of around 30cm and have a spread of approximately 10cm.
When to Feed: Onion Sets Poroska Red are heavy feeders and require a nutrient-rich soil to grow well. Feed them with a balanced fertilizer at planting time and then again every four to six weeks during the growing season.
Planting Tip: Plant the onion sets about 10cm apart, with the pointed end facing upwards, and the top of the set just below the soil surface. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged during the growing season, and remove any flower stalks that may appear to ensure a good bulb formation. Harvest the bulbs when the leaves start to yellow and wither, and leave them to dry out in a warm, dry, and airy place for a few days before storing them.
