Clematis Princess Kate

Clematis Princess Kate

Clematis ‘Princess Kate’ is a stunning, deciduous climber that produces a profusion of elegant, large, lilac-blue flowers from mid to late summer. Its striking blooms feature six wide, overlapping petals and striking yellow anthers that add a pop of color to the flowers.

This hardy clematis is well-suited to the UK climate and can be planted in a sunny or partially shaded spot in a well-draining soil. Ideally, it should be planted in a location where its roots are kept cool and moist, so it’s recommended to plant it with the base of the plant in shade and the upper part of the plant in sun.

To ensure your clematis blooms its best, it’s recommended to feed it twice a year. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring and then a high potassium fertilizer in late summer to encourage flowering. Deadheading spent flowers will also encourage more blooms.

As for pruning, group 2 clematis, which includes ‘Princess Kate,’ should be pruned in late winter or early spring. Cut back the previous year’s stems to a pair of strong buds about 30cm above ground level. This will encourage strong new growth and plenty of flowers for the following season.

Overall, ‘Princess Kate’ is a gorgeous clematis variety that’s sure to add a touch of elegance to any garden or patio space. With the proper care and attention, it will reward you with a beautiful display of lilac-blue blooms every summer.
