Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’

The Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’ is a stunning evergreen shrub, prized for its highly fragrant, pale pink flowers and attractive variegated foliage with golden-yellow edges. Flowering from January to March, it brings a delightful scent to winter gardens when little else is in bloom. Growing to a compact height of 1–1.5 metres, it is perfect for borders, patio containers, or woodland settings.

A fantastic plant for pollinators, its nectar-rich blooms provide an essential food source for bees and early butterflies, helping sustain them through the colder months.

For best results, plant in moist but well-drained, fertile soil in a sheltered, sunny, or partially shaded position. Daphne prefers neutral to slightly acidic soil and does not like to be transplanted once established. Avoid waterlogged conditions, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot.

The best time to plant is autumn or early spring, allowing the roots to settle before flowering. Feed with a slow-release balanced fertiliser in spring, and apply a mulch of well-rotted compost to maintain soil fertility and moisture.

With its intoxicating fragrance, elegant foliage, and pollinator-friendly benefits, Daphne odora ‘Aureomarginata’ is a perfect choice for year-round beauty and winter interest in your garden.
