Euphorbia characias

Euphorbia characias is a stunning evergreen perennial, known for its bold, upright form and striking lime-green flowers surrounded by yellow bracts. It begins flowering in late spring to early summer (April to June), providing a unique, long-lasting display that brightens any garden. Growing to a height of 1–1.2 metres, this perennial adds dramatic texture and structure to borders, gravel gardens, or mixed planting schemes.

Euphorbia characias is an excellent choice for pollinator-friendly gardens, as its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. This early-season source of food helps support local wildlife when few other plants are in bloom.

For best results, plant in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in a sunny position. Euphorbia characias thrives in dry, poor-to-moderately fertile soils and is highly drought-tolerant once established.
