Cara Seed Potatoes are a high-yielding, mid to late-season variety, known for their impressive disease resistance and large, oval-shaped tubers. With their firm, waxy flesh and excellent flavour, Cara potatoes are ideal for boiling, roasting, and making chips. This versatile variety is perfect for gardeners looking for a reliable crop with excellent storage potential.

When to Plant:
Plant Cara potatoes in early to mid-spring, from late March to April, once the soil has warmed and is free from frost. Choose a sunny, well-drained location and prepare the soil by loosening it and incorporating organic matter. Chitting the seed potatoes before planting, by placing them in a cool, bright spot for 2-3 weeks, encourages sprouting and ensures strong growth.

When to Feed:
Feed Cara potatoes with a balanced fertiliser or one specifically designed for potatoes to support healthy growth. Apply the first feed about 4-6 weeks after planting, and a second feed when the plants begin flowering to promote strong tuber development and increased yield.

When to Harvest:
Cara potatoes are ready for harvest in around 14-16 weeks, typically from late summer to early autumn (August to September), once the foliage has flowered and begun to die back.

How to Get the Best Results:
To get the best results, ensure regular watering, especially during dry periods, and keep the soil free from weeds. Hill up the soil around the plants to protect the tubers from sunlight and improve yield. Regular care and attention will result in a bountiful, high-quality crop.
