Weigela Florida Victoria is a deciduous shrub that is known for its striking foliage and beautiful pink flowers.
Best position: Weigela Florida Victoria prefers a position in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. These shrubs can grow up to 2 metres tall and should be planted with enough space to allow good air circulation. Weigela Florida Victoria is ideal for borders, hedges, and as a specimen plant.
Flowering time: Weigela Florida Victoria produces clusters of pink, trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom from late spring to early summer. The flowers are highly attractive to pollinators, making them a great choice for a pollinator-friendly garden. The foliage of Weigela Florida Victoria is also stunning, with deep-green leaves that have a purplish tinge in the spring.
When to feed: Weigela Florida Victoria will benefit from a balanced fertiliser applied in early spring. A liquid feed every two weeks during the growing season can also provide nutrients for the plant. Avoid over-fertilising the plant as it can lead to leggy growth and weak stems.
When to prune: Weigela Florida Victoria can be pruned in the autumn or early spring to maintain its shape and promote healthy growth. Deadheading the spent blooms can encourage the plant to produce more flowers. The shrub can also be cut back to ground level every few years to rejuvenate it. Note that the plant can be susceptible to powdery mildew, so avoid overhead watering and ensure good air circulation around the plant.
