Lavender Stoechas, also known as Spanish Lavender, is a compact evergreen shrub with highly aromatic leaves and unique flowers. It is native to the Mediterranean and can grow up to 60 cm in height and spread. The plant produces spikes of small, fragrant flowers that come in shades of purple, pink, and white.
To ensure the best growth and flowering, Lavender Stoechas requires a sunny position with well-drained soil. It is tolerant of dry conditions, but excessive moisture can lead to root rot. The plant is also frost-tolerant, making it ideal for gardens in colder climates.
Lavender Stoechas blooms from late spring to mid-summer, with occasional blooms throughout the rest of the year. It can be encouraged to bloom for longer periods by deadheading spent flowers regularly.
Feeding should be done sparingly, as the plant can suffer from over-fertilization. A general-purpose fertilizer can be applied in early spring and again in mid-summer. Pruning should be done in early spring, before new growth appears. Cut back the plant by one-third of its height to promote new growth and a more compact shape.
Lavender Stoechas is a popular plant for borders, rock gardens, and containers. It also makes an attractive addition to herb gardens and is commonly used in aromatherapy due to its calming and relaxing properties.
