Digitalis, commonly known as Foxglove, is a tall and graceful perennial that is a favourite of many gardeners. The ‘Lavender’ variety of Digitalis is a stunning addition to any garden, with its long spikes of tubular flowers in a soft lavender hue. It is a great plant for attracting bees and other pollinators to your garden.
Digitalis ‘Lavender’ thrives in a position of partial shade, in moist but well-draining soil. It can tolerate full sun but will need more regular watering. The plant can grow to a height of 1-1.5 metres and a spread of 30-60 cm, so it is best suited to the back of a border or as a statement plant.
The flowering time of Digitalis ‘Lavender’ is in late spring to early summer. Regular deadheading of spent flowers can encourage the plant to produce a second flush of blooms later in the season.
To ensure the plant’s health and vigour, it is important to feed Digitalis ‘Lavender’ regularly. A balanced, slow-release fertiliser applied in early spring will provide the nutrients the plant needs to thrive. It is also a good idea to add a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
